Kids

At Bridges, we believe...

…the primary place of discipleship of children isn’t the church or Sunday school, but the home.  We don’t want to just equip our children to love and follow Jesus, we want to equip the whole family.

What do we do to ensure a safe environment at Bridges?

Every teacher or teaching assistant undergoes a background check and ministry safe training. A minimum of two adults will accompany children at all times. Parents are to keep their phones with them in case they need to be reached during worship service or Adult Sunday school.

What do we teach the children?

The same thing we teach our adults — the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We seek to train them in the Word, and pray they come to see it as beautiful and true as they become aware of their sin and need of a savior.

What do we believe about teaching children?

At Bridges, we believe every baptized child is a member of our church. Therefore we want to give the same attention and care to their spiritual development as we do our older members. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

To equip and involve parents in raising their children in the Lord, we teach in these ways:
  • Classroom setting — Bible lesson and activities on Sundays for children in their own age group
  • Children participate with their family in the worship service — We believe a heart of worship is taught as well as “caught.” That is, what a child sees adults doing is as important, and maybe even more important, than what adults say. We encourage parents to talk to their kids about the sermon and worship service at home
  • Monthly gatherings of dads/sons and moms/daughters — We aim to train parents to get into the habit of talking to their kids about God and his Word by gathering parents and their children for fun  with other families with some set aside time for guided, one-on-one spiritual conversations between dads and sons and/or moms and daughters.  (NEW!)
